Less Confrontational Italo

A big Morgan Geist favourite, came here via the Italo Deviant Board. Yes you read that correctly.....

Full On Italo - Not for the Feint Hearted

Wiggly tinny synth and simple early drum machines......the sound of tiled disco bar with formica counter. Let's party !

The Voice of Q (Dub)

Bonkers Italo / Boogie classic with fabulous vocoder and bassline from outer space.

Sunil Sharpe - Brilliant Boiler Room Techno Stet

Sunil used to work in Spindizzy Records in Dublin and dutifully restacked almost all of the various techno tunes he attempted to introduce me to.

As you can see it wasn't Sunil's taste or the records at fault ....:)

Tracksuit as Medical Aid / Assistant of Local Democratic Process

The former Mayor Brown of Toronto (now deceased) on the way to a vital assembly vote with Diadora vented pants facilitating a range of movement required to allow departure from a post operative sick bed.

While unforgiving, the choice of colour and everyman zip position are both pitch perfect. The tugged shirt is perhaps overdone, but the shopping list as speech competes a look that belies a masterful appreciation of the power of leisure wear.

Bagguio

Turn of the century Progressive Trance. Remix from Muir & Digweed.

Why We Sing

Full on Gospel gear. Kenny Bobien in all his glory.

Spread Love

Classic Gospel house made for Timmy Regisford / Club Shelter. A lovely feel good record with an amazing vocal performance from Bobien (a preacher) and Ann Nesby. Life affirming.

Bye Bye Stembi

Proto tech house with pointless tribal nonsense in the background. Lovin it like Kevin Keegan.

Cote D'Azur

July 1989 in Marseille, France and a left footed Geordie genius is about to show continental Europe how to dribble, record pop music and rock the blue Adidas shell with jeans.

Landscape III

Second incarnation of UK 80's synth group Landscape. Music for the bath.

Cosmic Rain

Hippy dippy RnB workout from journeyman session musician from Nashville.

Format # 2 - Dance

Fab Dutch House from Orlano Voorn discovered via a Morgan Geist mix.
A very American sounding record made in Amsterdam . A middle of the night, pick up the pace tune.

Revolutionary Tracksuits

The tracksuit as uniform of the revolutionary nationalist.

I know it's dark, but the morning comes

Terry Farley mix featuring pianna riff nicked from Tubular Bells.

Q And K Session - Pulsate

While unlikely to spark fistfights at record fairs this early noughties outing on Dorigen is dating well.

Schmoov - Masks

Simple wibble wobble house.

Boogie Your Aunt Might Like

Bread Love and Dreams

It's November 1992, a young Arkansas Senator has just become the 42nd President of the United States, the first women priests have been ordained in the UK and somewhere in Scotland Slam are making fabulous progressive house records.

I Do

Notwithstanding the concession to the conventions of occasion determined colour, this modern Adidas two piece delivers a tour de force of individuality (note absence of Trefoil which adorns the heritage collections).

Guantanamo Chic

A hugely controversial political piece delivered by Christopher Shannon is his Autumn collection 2014.

Solomun - Something We All Adore

Forget the music the Youtube comments are where it's at !

"Solomun, what a fucking bossman. Glasses on, white wine in a wine glass, having a little skank around with some very elegant hand movements, ushering off some wet groupies at the same time - as well as absolutely killing this set. DONBOY!"

"This video has so many characters and subplots, it's like a Shakespearean tragedy"

Eden - Free

It's 1985, your name is Darren and it's time to make a pub rock record that a small number of middle aged men will obsess about in 30 years time. Isn't life strange?

Flirting with Recently Released Prisoners

Nasty Progressive trance with lots of bottom end - the sound of sheet metal wobbling in a dirty basement. Reminds my wife of a rave in Wicklow, a recently released convict and doors doubling as tables ....."Insaneia" as Peter Andre might say.....

Velour or not to Velour

Revered as the tuxedo of tracksuits, velour has a loyal following with fashion forward cognoscenti. When piped correctly as above, this fabric can handle even the most misplaced colour confidence.

Leo Zero - Rabbit Heart Remix

Leo Zero's stunning reinterpretation.

Advance - Take Me To The Top

Fabulous boogie with a pleading opening
"we can talk about it, what's been done is gone
what's the use in doubting, when we've both been wrong"

Daso - Meine

It's 5am, you've lost your wallet and your eyes have stopped working, woo hoo!

"The Face" by Addidas / Lendl

Although predated by a striking Argyle mark 1 and 2 this Dali inspired Addidas design forms a cornerstone of Ivan Lendl's leisure suit legacy.

You Should Die By Bullets

Weird compelling Thai pop.

Sergio Tacchini Hooligan Uniform

Shaun Ryder meets Danny Dyer in a faux leather triumph of Italian style and  terrace hooliganism. Name checked by Tone Loc and worn by Sabbatini, Sergio Tacchini looms large in the  landscape of modern leisure wear.

House Pressure 5 Mixtape - Opening Track

Part produced by Nick Hook who made Headstrong a year later.........this is tinny and dated but still sounds urgent and marked a memorable opening to DJ Pressure's 'House Pressure 5'.

Mid market Umbro

Mid market producers adopted a more flamboyant approach both to colour and fit and were quickly paired with jeans which they billowed above. Note the careful choice of shirt and light jeans which creates a new niche for this adaptable piece.

Please Re-edit This !

Don't get me wrong, it's a terrific record as is, in my top 3 house records of all time..........but from 4 minutes onward the record does some amazing things and nothing sounds like it at all.........but some of the last third should be reused and reinterpreted in some way.

C&C at their very best which is very good indeed.

Italian leisure suit

Early 90s fitted Italian design from Lotto, combining tapered leg with mid length jacket and striking arm design design band soon imitated by Kos and others.

If Eric Morillo never did anything else....

Bass, a siren and some mad bird shouting pretty insistently.......

Gowan ya mad ting etc etc...

Not Awful Italo

Much sampled Italo classic.........

Denise Van Outen gets Luvdup

Surprisingly brilliant Luvdup mix of  a duo featuring Denise Van Outen .......

Very mid 90's Dave Seaman
